The Triumphant Journey of Sharla Lavarin-Ulett
April 15, 1987 – January 26, 2026
It is with profound sorrow, yet anchored in faith, that we celebrate the life and triumphant transition of Sharla Lavarin-Ulett. Sharla was a woman who didn't just live; she served, she healed, and she conquered every trial with a grace that was nothing short of divine.
The Foundation of a Healer
Sharla’s story began on April 15, 1987, in New Jersey, as the second child of Pierre and Charline Lavarin. From an early age, her Haitian heritage and her family’s faith instilled in her a spirit of excellence. After graduating from Asbury Park High School in 2005, she followed a calling toward healing.
She attended Atlantic Union College (AUC), where her life’s two great passions took root: her career and her family. She earned her Associate in Nursing in 2009 and her Bachelor’s in 2010. More importantly, it was at AUC that she met her soulmate, Samuel Ulett III. They were united in marriage on September 2, 2012, beginning a beautiful partnership of faith.
A Life of Service and Sacrifice
As a Registered Nurse, Sharla didn't just treat patients; she ministered to them. Her life became a map of service as she followed Sam’s pastoral ministry. In 2013, they welcomed their first son, Aaron, in Rhode Island. They later moved to Michigan for Sam’s seminary studies, where their second son, Andrew, was born in 2015.
The family eventually settled in Ohio, where Sharla’s strength was tested in the fire. While navigating her own four-year battle with cancer, she stood by Sam during his struggle with kidney disease until his passing on December 26, 2023.
A Hero in the Midst of Grief
Sharla’s heroism was defined by what she did when the world was heaviest. Just days after burying her husband, while still enveloped in the fog of loss, she witnessed a horrific car accident. Ignoring her own pain, the "nurse" in her took over. She jumped into the wreckage to rescue three teenagers, using her expertise to keep them calm and her faith to pray with them until help arrived. Even in her darkest hour, she chose to be someone else’s light.
A Legacy of "Love in Action"
In the summer of 2025, Sharla showed her final burst of maternal strength. She returned to New Jersey, staying with her parents while she worked tirelessly to secure a new home for her and her boys in South Jersey—a sanctuary meant for "hope and new beginnings."
Her commitment to God never wavered. Up until just two weeks before her passing, when she was physically no longer able, she continued to teach the youth Bible study class at Galilee, her mother’s church. She was determined to pour into the next generation until her very last drop of strength was spent.
A Triumphant Finish
Sharla’s life was a masterclass in resilience. She is survived by her two "precious pillars," Aaron and Andrew Ulett; her devoted parents, Pierre and Charline Lavarin; her brothers, Peterson and Matthias Lavarin; host of aunts, uncles and cousins from the Lavarin, Navarin;Dumarsais, Ulett and Alexandre families;including an extended community that stands in awe of her courage. She has transitioned from this life not in defeat, but in total victory, joining Sam in eternal peace.
